As a community, shaped by our values, the things we do together fall into one or more of these four broad areas…
Prayer
At the heart of our spirituality is our practice of prayer. This will be expressed in different ways by different people but as a community we are learning the practice of contemplative prayer and the value of silence and meditation amongst other prayer practices from the Christian tradition. These are important elements of our weekly gatherings.
Other important aspects of this practice are engaging with the scriptures, retreat, fasting etc as well as finding ways to bring our physicality into our practice of prayer.
Community
Another important aspect of our spiritual practice is community building. Home aspires to be more than simply a service on sundays. Home aspires to be a community of faith. This means investing in our relationships with each other. We are relational beings and it’s through our relationships that we discover who we really are. This is a slow process and, like many of the best things in life, takes time. But we are committed to looking for opportunities to deepen our relationships with each other.
Mission
We are looking for ways to join in with what God is doing in the world – healing and renewing all things. That might mean peace-making or seeking justice. It might mean people being awakened to life with God in and through Christ. It might mean participating in care for the world around us. These are all movements of the Spirit which we are called to participate in. Home is looking for ways to do this together and also as individuals.
Spiritual Formation
We are committed to the processes of transformation that God leads us into to enable our wholeness. This might happen as we participate in the other areas of our practice but we also want to intentionally make space for finding ways to more deeply understand who we are, our disfunctionalities, what makes us tick and how we can grow as human beings. For some that might mean finding a spiritual director, others will engage in counsellling or therapy. Whatever it may be we know that God calls us to be whole and healed human beings.
